Bhubaneswar: While the Odisha government has announced lockdown in the capital city till July 31 as COVID-19 cases have risen sharply, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to conduct about 2,000 tests a day during the time.
The number of COVID patients in Bhubaneswar is on the rise as it has reported 1,343 COVID cases so far. However, BMC authorities claimed that they have collected more than 54,000 samples so far.
BMC officials said that 1,400 tests are conducted in a day, which will soon be increased by 50 to 60 per cent. Samples will be collected mainly from slum areas, enclaves and organisations. Most of them are expected to be rapid tests.
About 26 employees of four mills at Mancheswar had contracted the virus from a previous patient. Another nine are staffer of a construction company at Rajmahal linked to an earlier positive case. A total of 91 positive cases were reported from the city on Wednesday.
With 11 deaths and 724 recoveries, Bhubaneswar now has 606 active cases.
