Bhubaneswar DCP Meets Puja Committees As City Gears Up For Grand Dussehra

Bhubaneswar: With Durga Puja set to be celebrated with public participation after a gap of 2 years in Odisha capital, the local administration has geared up for a grand and peaceful celebration.

While the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) held a coordination meeting on the arrangements for the puja, the Commissionerate Police discussed the issues regarding immersion of Durga idols with different puja committees on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, UPD Prateek Singh chaired the meeting with the puja committees in the Conference Hall of DCP office. The meeting discussed the matters related to immersion procession of puja pandals.

The representatives of puja committees put forth their suggestions, while the DCP stressed on ensuring disciplined and peaceful procession. Members of Bhubaneswar Bhasani Committee, Uttar Bhubaneswar Bhasani committee along with the puja committee members of Rasulgarh, Saheednagar, Jharapada, Nayapalli and Barmunda attended the meeting. Senior police officers were also present.

Earlier, Mayor Sulochana Das said the city will have a grand celebration of Dussehra this year. Speaking to media persons after a coordination meeting in BMC office, she said, “The city will have 178 Durga puja pandals, which is more than those being erected in Cuttack, and cultural programmes at puja pandals will be allowed till midnight.”
