Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha continued to sizzle under intense heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that hot and humid conditions are likely to grip the state till the end of this month.

According to temperatures recorded at 2.30 pm, Sambalpur registered 44 degrees Celsius, followed by 43 degrees Celsius in Hirakud and 42.2 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda.

Capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius coupled with high humidity level of 62 per cent at 2.30 pm. As a result, the heat index in the city shot up to 57 degree, causing considerable discomfort to the residents.

The weather agency predicted that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next two days. Thereafter, the temperature may fall by 2-4°C in the state.

In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a red warning of heatwave, hot and humid and warm night conditions in Bslangir and Boudh districts during the next 24 hours.

Similarly, orange warning was issued for Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts during the period.
On May 27, orange warning of heatwave was issued for Boudh and Balangir districts, while yellow alert was sounded for Jharsuguda.

Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Sonepur districts during the period.

On May 28, orange warning was for Boudh and Balangir districts, while yellow alert was sounded for Jharsuguda.

Hot and humid conditions may prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Sonepur districts during the period.
