Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have formed multiples teams to rescue a 2-year-old baby boy, who was snatched from his visually-challenged mother outside Ram Mandir in Bhubaneswar late on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena on Monday said that a kidnapping case has been registered and human and technical intelligence are being used to trace the boy, whom he identified as Subham Mallick.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 1.30 am when 25-year-old Jayanti Mallick, who stayed with her son and a five-year-old daughter at Kanya Ashram in Niladri Vihar, was at Ram Mandir, where she along with her children begged every day. Since it is was raining, she was unable to leave for the ashram and decided to spend the night on the pavement near the temple. Soon, an unidentified man approached the family, offered fruit juice, and handed his mobile phone to the baby to play with. The woman said she returned to sleep, only to discover later that her baby was missing.
Preliminary investigation revealed footage of two men walking with a baby from the temple area towards Raj Mahal.
“I have not slept or eaten anything since last night. My baby is breastfed and hasn’t eaten either. Please bring my child back. He was taken because I cannot see,” she told the media.
She suspect that her child may have been kidnapped by those involved in possible human organ trafficking.
