Bhubaneswar: The mercury is likely to hover around 11°C in twin cities of Odisha – Bhubaneswar and Cuttack – this week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The state capital Bhubaneswar saw a drop of 3.2°C in the mercury levels in the last 3 days, from 15.1°C on December 21 to 11.9°C on December 23. The city had recorded 13.6°C the previous day.
The minimum temperature stood at 12.4°C in neighbouring Cuttack this morning.
Koraput was the coldest place in the state for the second consecutive day at 6.3°C, followed by Semiliguda, also in Koraput district, at 6.7°C. The other places which recorded temperature below 10°C include Daringbadi and G Udayagiri in Kandhamal at 7°C and 7.4°C respectively, Nabarangpur (8°C), Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, (8.5°C), Jharsuguda and Chiplima in Sambalpur at 9.4°C each and Boudh (9.5°C).
Dense fog also engulfed Rourkela, Phulbani, Jharsuguda and Sonepur this morning, while moderate fog occurred in Chandbali in Balasore, Koraput and Phulbani.
The weather agency has forecast dense fog during early hours/morning hours at isolated pockets in districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur and Kandhamal till December 25; Koraput, Sundargarh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal till December 27 and Koraput and Sundargarh during the subsequent 24 hours. It further stated that the state is unlikely to experience any large change in the minimum temperature during the next seven days.
