Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has unveiled plans for an ambitious underground metro rail system in Bhubaneswar as part of an effort to improve city connectivity and address traffic congestion.
Outlining plans to ease traffic congestion in the state capital, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said that the proposed metro rail system’s alignment would be fully underground. The project is part of a larger initiative to revamp Bhubaneswar’s infrastructure.
The Minister told reporters on Sunday that the underground metro rail system is proposed to connect Patia to the new CRP Road and is slated for completion by the end of 2025. The project is expected to ease traffic bottlenecks in key urban corridors.
“The alignment of the metro rail system will be fully underground in Bhubaneswar. The Chief Minister has ordered the department concerned in this regard and the department has already started its work,” the Minister said.
This apart, a new ring road encircling Bhubaneswar is scheduled for completion by 2027 as part of efforts to further improve the city’s connectivity, he said.
In order to make the growth of Bhubaneswar more systematic and simultaneous, the government has planned both inner and outer ring roads. The outer ring road will cover Khurda, Janti and Trisulia. Apart from these, capital region ring road will also be constructed, he said.
