Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday lashed out at the Bjaratiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha over the controversies surrounding a newly-built Jagannath Temple at Digha in West Bengal.
Responding to reports about alleged use of the surplus wood (sacred Daru) from Nabakalebar ceremony at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri for making the idols of the new shrine at Digha, BJD vice president Prasanna Acharya targeted the Odisha government over the development.
Raising questions over the probe ordered by the state government into Digha controversy, the veteran BJD leader claimed that a series of irregularities pertaining to important rituals in Puri have rocked the state.
Acharya sought to know as to how many investigations would be conducted into these alleged irregularities. The 2024 Rath Yatra in Puri saw a series of incidents, including the fall of Lord Balabhadra’s idol, he said.
The state government must make public the findings of the probe ordered by it into these incidents, and take concrete steps to prevent recurrence of such happenings.
