Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is all set to launch its one-month-long yatra from October 9 to highlight the alleged failures of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha.

The annual ‘Jan Sampark Padayatra’ will continue till November 9 in every assembly constituency, block, and panchayat across the state, BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said.

The BJD usually holds such processions from October 2 every year, but Dussehra fell on that day in 2025. Therefore, the regional party has decided to commence the month-long procession on Gopabandhu Jayanti on October 9.

Ahead of the month-long drive, BJD leaders paid homage to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Janata Maidan Gandhi Park on the occasion of his birth anniversary. They took a pledge and resolved to make the campaign a success. Senior party leader Debi Prasad Mishra read out the campaign resolution.

Hailing Mahatma Gandhi as the symbol of non-violence, a BJD statement said that party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has always been demanding that the word non-violence be included in the preamble of the Constitution. It has been resolved that the BJD will continue its fight for the inclusion of the word non-violence in the preamble of the Constitution.

The BJD will also create public awareness about the successes of the previous party government and the failures of the current BJP regime by going door to door in during the padyatra. The BJD president has directed that this should be done in every ward, block, panchayat, district council, village and election constituency for a month till November 9, it said.

Along with this, the party leadership has also taken the decision of conducting a public relations campaign in all the constituencies of the state.

The BJD leaders and members will create awareness among the people about the “failures of the BJP government in maintaining law & order and ensuring security for women”, said a senior party leader.
