Cuttack: Former India off-spinner and Odisha woman star player Rasanara Parwin has retired from professional cricket
“Rasanara Parwin has announced her retirement from cricket. Her remarkable journey, representing Odisha and Team India, has made the state proud and inspired countless young cricketers to follow their dreams,” Odisha Cricket Association informed though a social media post on Thursday.
A native of Balangir town, Rasanara, was the second woman cricketer from Odisha, to represent India. She played one One-Day International, three T20 International and around 130 senior domestic matches in her career that spanned over 15 years.
The off-spinner played her only ODI against West Indies on January 31 at the 2013 Women’s World Cup in Mumbai in which she bowled seven overs and gave way 34 runs. She was also the first woman cricketer from the state to find a place in India’s T20 World Cup team.
She represented India in T20Is against Sri Lanka and Pakistan during the 2012 Women’s World Cup. Though she played a T20I against Thailand during 2012 Asia Cup in China, the match does not figure in her career profile for some reason.
Rasanara also helped the state team reach semifinals or quarterfinals several times in Senior National One-Day and T20 Tournaments.
She has been serving as a sub-inspector in Odisha Police since 2015.
