BJP Flays Odisha Govt Over Cuttack Minor Girl Gangrape Case

Bhubaneswar: Even as police formed a special team to investigate the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in Cuttack, the state unit of BJP came down heavily on the sate government for its failure in ensuring safety and security of women.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, BJP’s state general secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar said the cases of crime against women, domestic violence, harassment, exploitation and torture are on the rise in the state. Odisha tops in the country in misbehaviour of women, according to NCRB report, she added.

“The Class IX girl student was gang-raped for 22 days and as the survivor is from Tirtol, how will the government face the people during the forthcoming bypoll,” the BJP leader asked.

Stating that there might be a women trafficking racket behind the incident, Lekhashree also questioned the silence of the State Women Commission, MoS (Home Department) and Women & Child Development (WCD) Minister on the matter.

“State Women Commission chief speaks up when it suits their political purpose. Similarly, the WCD minister, Home minister and Chief Minister who make tall claims about women safety are completely silent,” she added.
Samantsinghar  further said the government has no moral right to remain in power as it failed to take any action on over 200 such cases brought to its notice by BJP in the last two years.
