Gurugram: An IT professional and his wife were found dead inside their rented Gurugram apartment on Wednesday. The bodies were discovered after the employer of Mohammad Aslam (30) received an early morning e-mail from him, saying “we are leaving this world”.
He had also shared the phone numbers of his parents and landlord, asking his employer to to inform them. After receiving the email, his colleagues contacted the landlord, who went to the couple’s flat in Tower 7 of M3M Marina.
The landlord found Aslam dead inside the apartment and his wife, Farhana (28), lying on the floor with an injury mark on her neck. He immediately alerted the Badshapur police, as reported by News18.
The police found a note inside the flat carrying the words “We are leaving this world”. The words “I love you” were also written on Farhana’s clothes. Investigators are examining the note, electronic devices and other material recovered from the apartment to establish what happened.
A case of murder has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators suspect Aslam killed his wife before dying by suicide, but officers said the exact sequence of events and cause of death would be established only after the autopsy.
The couple’s families, who are based in Kerala, said they were unaware of any marital discord. Relatives described the two as being close and said they appeared happy together.
The incident had left both families shocked, Farhana’s brother Faisal said.
“The couple shared a really close bond. Both were happy with each other and had no marital discord,” he was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
Relatives said Aslam had been receiving treatment and undergoing therapy for depression for around 18 months. They said neither he nor Farhana had spoken about any problems that suggested they were facing serious difficulties.
Family members suspected that work pressure may have played a role, although they had no confirmation, Faisal said.
“We suspect that work pressure in the IT sector may have led to the incident,” he said, adding that the couple had never discussed anything that indicated they were going through such a difficult period.
Aslam and Farhana had shifted to Gurugram from Bengaluru around three months ago. Aslam, who was from Kozhikode, had joined an Indonesia-based IT company with an office in Sector 58. Farhana, a native of Malappuram, worked from home for a Bengaluru-based IT firm.
The two got married in 2023 and had spent nearly two years in Bengaluru before moving to Gurugram.
Aslam held an electrical and electronics engineering degree from NIT Calicut and completed his MBA from IIM Indore in 2020. Farhana had completed her BTech from MES College of Engineering in Kuttippuram, Kerala.
The police said the apartment door was not bolted. Investigators recovered three laptops, two mobile phones, a rope, a diary, scissors, a pen drive, a note and a pen from the flat. The electronic devices have been sent for forensic examination.
The note did not contain any allegations against another person, the police said. The bodies were taken to a mortuary and identified by family members on Friday. The post-mortem examinations were yet to be conducted.
