Rourkela: A BSF jawan was found dead inside Gitanjali Express at Rourkela railway station on Wednesday night while returning to his base camp in Sonepur, Chhattisgarh, after a holiday.
He has been identified as Sanjay Das (39) from Barpeta, Assam.
Accoridng to sources, Das, serving in the BSF’s 133 Battalion, was found unconscious near a toilet after the train departed from Chakradharpur station. Railway authorities were informed, and upon the train’s arrival at Rourkela around 11.30 pm, GRP personnel and a railway doctor confirmed his death. His identity was verified via his service card.
GRP Inspector Reshma Ekka reported an unnatural death case, with initial findings suggesting a possible heart attack.
BSF personnel from the 133 Battalion and Bhubaneswar claimed the body on Thursday evening.
After a postmortem, his mortal remains, draped in the national flag, was transported to Bhubaneswar and airlifted to Assam on Friday for last rites. He is survived by his wife and 13-year-old son.
