Bhubaneswar: The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a Maoist dump during a recent operation in treacherous and remote areas falling under Kalimela and Chitrakonda police station limits in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
Based on reliable information, the BSF personnel carried out a search operation on a hilltop area on April 16 and recovered two muzzle-loaded Bharmar guns and two black carry bags, containing gunpowder and explosives. The arms and explosives were concealed between stone boulders and covered with leaves at the top of a hill near Pilisumamadi village under Kalimela panchayat, a BSF release said.
Combing and search operations are continuing to ensure safety for both security forces and local residents.
“The BSF has been relentlessly conducting operations in the highly Maoist-affected districts of Malkangiri and Koraput in South Odisha. Such recoveries strike a blow to Maoist strategies and weaken their morale in the face of the growing dominance of security forces,” it added.
Earlier this month, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania had announced a significant reduction in Maoist-affected districts, from 21 to just 7, supporting the Centre’s objective of achieving a Maoist-free nation by March 2026.
