Budhi Thakurani Yatra In Odisha’s Berhampur Extended
Berhampur: The biennial Budhi Thakurani Yatra in Odisha’s Berhampur has been extended by two days.
The district administration had allowed seven days for the yatra which started on April 9. It is being observed amid strict COVID-19 guidelines was scheduled to end on April 17 night. After the extension, the yatra would now end on April 19 night.
The administration has, however, banned public darshan and imposed Section 144 CrPC in Desibehera Sahi after two priests tested COVID positive and prohibitory orders are still in force.
It may be stated that Budhi Thakurani came to ‘Asthai Mandir’ or the temporary abode at Desibehera Sahi from the main temple with Patala Durga Prasad Desibehera, considered as her father in a procession on April 9 late night.
As per Hindu tradition, no daughter returns to her father’s house on 9th day, Patala Durga Prasad requested the Commissioner of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) that the term of yatra must extend for another two days. The BeMC accepted the request.
