Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Commission (BMC) on Friday demolished the house of a prime accused in the sensational broad daylight murder of sanitation supervisor Sahadev Nayak, at Kedarpalli Basti here under heavy police presence.
The drive was carried out on the ground of encroachment and illegal construction.
The accused, Raja Nayak, has been absconding since the victim was bludgeoned with two swords, almost decapitating him, on National Highway-16 near busy Rasulgarh Square in the early hours of January 8. He is the nephew of 62-year-old Rama Nayak, who was arrested by Mancheswar police in February for allegedly masterminding the murder, source said.
It is being alleged that Raja ran drug trade from the house, which was built on government land. The authorities had earlier issued a notice, asking his family to vacant the house, the sources added.
So far, eight persons have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder. The accused, after hacking Sahadev, drove to Daya river, disposed of the weapons used in the crime, changed their clothes and even took a bath to remove blood stains on them. They then fled towards Nayagarh where they were eventually nabbed.
