Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday permitted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to operate its frozen bank accounts, directing that all transactions be carried out under the guidance of a retired High Court judge, according to a HT report.
The court ordered that the accounts, which had been frozen following a police directive amid an investigation into alleged financial irregularities, could be used for day-to-day operations subject to judicial oversight.
The TMC had approached the High Court challenging the freezing of its bank accounts. During earlier hearings, the court had sought detailed affidavits from the bank and the investigating authorities regarding the action.
The case stems from complaints that led to the freezing of the accounts holding substantial party funds. The issue has also coincided with parallel investigations by the Enforcement Directorate into alleged money laundering linked to TMC finances, though the High Court proceedings concern the legality of the account freeze and their operation pending investigation.
The High Court is expected to continue hearing the matter while the retired judge oversees the functioning of the accounts until further orders.
