Campus Violence In Odisha: VIMSAR Forms Panel To Probe Attack On MKCG Students

Sambalpur: Two days after 9 medical students were injured in a violent group clash in the campus of VIMSAR at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, a four-member committee has been formed to probe into the incident.

Director of Vir Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Barsha Tudu on Thursday told the media that the committee comprising Prof Prakash Panda of Paediatric department, Prof Mamata Murmu of Medicine, faculty member Satyasai Panda of FMT and Prof Mamata Sar of Anatomy has been formed to investigate into the group clash that left 9 students injured.

Stating that the committee has been asked to submit its report in 3 days, the director said necessary action would be taken on the basis of the findings of the investigation.

It may be noted that the incident took place on July 4 when some students of VIMSAR sprayed fire extinguishers into the bus full of students from MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after locking it from outside.

As some students of MKCG College complained of breathing issues, a heated exchange of words ensued. The matter took a violent turn as VIMSAR students attacked the visitors with sticks and stones. Spectacles of some students were broken in the incident, which was also shared by some Twitter users.

The students of MKCG MCH had come to participate in the inter-college medical festival ‘Euphoria’ at VIMSAR.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Burla police station on the same day, but nobody has been arrested.
