Bhubaneswar: Ahead of students’ union polls in Odisha on October 11, campus violence forced authorities of Samanta Chandra Sekhara (SCS) Autonomous College in Puri and Anandpur College in Keonjhar to declare sine die on Friday.

Following rejection of the nominations of some candidates, students staged protest and gheraoed the Principal in SCS College. Bombs were also hurled at girls’ hostel on Thursday night. Following which, the authorities closed the college sine die.

Similarly, Anandpur college authorities canceled the elections and declared sine die following reports of sporadic violence on the campus.

After the nominations of two presidential candidates rejected on Thursday, tension gripped Rajdhani College in Bhubaneswar.  Police forces were deployed to control the situation even as students shouted slogans and held demonstrations.

Later, sine die was declared for the college.

Similarly, sine die was declared in Deboray College at Nayapalli after unidentified miscreants hurled bombs.

Pre-poll violence were also reported in Banki Autonomous College, Cuttack, and Maharaja Purna Chandra (MPC) Autonomous College, Baripada, the same day.

According to sources, students of Banki Autonomous College staged a protest after nomination of a candidate, Preetiranjan Panda, was cancelled. They staged a dharna, burnt tyres and locked up the main gate of the college.

Some students also tried to immolate themselves, but police stepped in and brought the situation under control.

In MPC Autonomous College, unidentified miscreants hurled bombs on the campus, damaging college property.
