New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G7 Summit to be held in Canada from June 15 to 17.
Modi received a call from Canadian PM Mark Carney, who invited him to the summit.
“Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister Mark J Carney of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month,” Modi wrote on X.
“As vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests. Look forward to our meeting at the Summit,” the Indian PM added.
India is looking to rebuild ties with Canada after bilateral relations hit rock bottom following previous PM Justin Trudeau accusing the Indian government of being involved in the assassination of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.
Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States
The Canadian government is hosting the 51st G7 Summit in the resort of Kananaskis, in Alberta province, from June 15 to 17.
Though India is not a part of G7 – comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States – other prominent leaders and heads of states are invited to attend the annual summit.
Since 2019, Modi has been invited to the outreach session of G7 Summits hosted by France, the UK, Germany, Japan and Italy.
