Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to grant an additional chance to Odisha Civil Services (OCS) candidates to attempt the exam. This compensatory attempt is applicable only for candidates, who had appeared for the exam in 2019 or 2020.

The decision was taken following pressing demand from a section of OCS aspirants to allow them additional chances to appear for the examination irrespective of maximum age limit and exhaustion of the number of attempts prescribed in the rule, stated the GA department in its resolution.

On account of the delay in conducting OCS and Combined Competitive Recruitment Examinations between 2011 and 2014 and the introduction of the UPSC pattern in OCSE, the state government had allowed additional compensatory attempts to the candidates to appear OCSE in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 irrespective of the age limit. In spite of this, a few aspirants had sought additional chances to take the test. The department, however, made it clear that this will be the only compulsory chance to appear for the test.

“After careful consideration, it has been decided by the government that notwithstanding anything contained in the rules, the intending candidates who have appeared in OCSE-2019 or OCSE-2020 but are otherwise ineligible to appear/compete in the OCSE-2021 on account of the attainment of upper age limit or exhaustion of the attempts prescribed under the Rules, shall be allowed one more additional compensatory attempt for appearing in OCSE-2021,” the GA&PG notification read.

“This shall come into force with immediate effect. The provisions of the OCS (CCRE) Rules, 1991 are being amended to the above extent separately,” it added.

“On account of delay in conducting Odisha Civil Services, Combined Competitive Recruitment Examinations (CCRE) in each year during the period 2011-2014 and consequent upon the introduction of UPSC pattern in the OCS Examination, it was decided by the Government in the past to allow additional compensatory attempts to appear in the OCSE-2016, OCSE-2017, OCSE-2018, OCSE-2019 & OCSE-2020 irrespective of maximum age limit of the candidates,” the notification said.
