‘Can’t Breathe Anymore’: COVID-19 Patient’s Last Video Message To Father After Being ‘Denied’ Oxygen

Hyderabad: A heart-wrenching video message by a dying 34-year-old man from his hospital bed in Hyderabad has sent shockwaves amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Am not able to breathe… Though I pleaded, they did not continue oxygen for the last three hours. I am not able to breathe any more daddy, it’s like my heart has stopped… Bye daddy. Bye to all, daddy,” the man is seen saying in the video which was reportedly recorded an hour before his death.

His father told the media that his son had a temperature. “I took him to the hospital on June 23 where they said he had COVID symptoms and needed to be tested,” he said.

He finally got him admitted to Hyderabad Government Chest Hospital on June 24 after at least 10 private hospitals refused admission.

“My son asked for help, but no one helped him. I saw the video only after I returned home after the last rites, and he said ‘bye daddy’,” the father was quoted as saying by NDTV. “What happened to my son should not happen to anyone else,” he added.

The family performed his last rites the same day. They received the results of the swab samples submitted at a private hospital, which said that he was COVID-19 positive, the following morning.
Refuting the allegation, Superintendent of Chest Hospital Mehboob Khan said that the virus had affected the patient’s heart because of which he had problems in breathing even with ventilator support.
