New Delhi: The much-talked-about death of Haridaspur Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal reverberated in Parliament on Friday with Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka demanding a CBI probe into it.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, the Congress MP said, “This (Smitarani Biswal’s death) is mysterious because the facts behind her death are yet to be ascertained and the suspicious manner in which the local police are investigating the matter. Without any investigation, it has been declared suicide and made public by none other than the accused. It is very sad that the administration has accepted it and is character shaming the victim.”
He then urged the Union Home Minister to direct a CBI probe into the matter for an impartial investigation.
Opposing the statement of the Congress member, BJD MP Pinaki Mishra said there was no justification in raising this issue in Parliament. It was a state matter and the Congress MP raised it for political gains.
The Speaker said he would look into the matter after examining the detailed record of the police.
