Paradip: A Panama-flagged cargo vessel sank in the Bay of Bengal off Odisha’s Paradip coast on Saturday.
The cargo ship, MV Ocean Winner, was carrying iron ore and had 24 crew members onboard — 20 Chinese, 3 Myanmar nationals and one Bangladeshi.
The vessel, which was en route to Singapore, sank around 240 nautical miles from Paradip, officials said.
The Indian Coast Guard said it received information regarding the loss of communication with MV Ocean Winner.
A major search and rescue operation was launched by the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy.
Two persons have so far been rescued, while search for the other crew members is underway.
Other vessels in the vicinity have been alerted and asked to assist in the search for missing crew members.
The circumstance under which the ship sank is yet to be established.
