Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan’s upcoming film ‘Maatrubhumi’ is yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), despite the makers revising its title.
While speculation has been rife about the delay, sources close to the development say the certification process is ongoing and the film is awaiting the censor board’s approval.
“Clearance (from Censor Board) is pending as process is underway. It is not on hold,” an insider was quoted as saying by NDTV.
‘Maatrubhumi’ was initially slated for a theatrical release on April 17, ahead of Eid.
The release date was then postponed to August.
It now appears unlikely that the film will be released in August.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner, ‘Maatrubhumi’ was previously titled as ‘Battle of Galwan’.
‘Maatrubhumi’ found itself at the centre of controversy over its title.
After its teaser surfaced online, some users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo accused the film of misrepresenting events surrounding the Galwan Valley clash.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified in January that matters related to filmmaking in India are handled by the “relevant authorities” and that the ministry has “no role” in such projects.
“We understand that a film of this nature is being planned. Issues regarding filmmaking in India, as you are well aware, are looked after by the relevant authorities. And as far as we are concerned, MEA has no role in this or such ventures,” Jaiswal said.
“The title of the film was changed from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. Changes are being made accordingly. It is likely that the release of the film may be further delayed. It is likely to be released in August around the Independence Day weekend,” sources were quoted as saying by the portal.
