[Watch] Celebrated Odissi Exponent Sujata Mohapatra Offers ‘Rag Seva’ At Ayodhya Ram Temple
Ayodhya: Sujata Mohapatra, a celebrated exponent of Odissi from Odisha, performed at the newly-constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya during ‘Shree Ram Rag Seva’, a 45-day devotional music festival dedicated to Lord Ram, on Sunday.
Known for her impeccable skill and emotive storytelling through dance, Sujata brought a unique blend of devotion and artistry to the sacred precincts with her performance at the ‘gudi mandap’.
‘Gudi mandap’ is located in front of ‘garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum)’, where the new idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated in a grand ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.
Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Malini Awasthi, Anup Jalota, Anuradha Paudwal, Pandit Sanjan Mishra, Swapna Sundari and Sonal Mansingh are also among more than 100 well-known artistes, who will perform during the 45-day festival which will conclude on March 10.
The festival is being organised by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and curated by Yatindra Mishra with support from Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi.
Notably, Sujata was conferred with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2017 for her contribution to Odissi dance. She has received serval other honours and awards, including Sanjukta Panigrahi Samman by the Sanjukta Panigrahi Trust; the Nrutya Choodamani by the Krishna Gana Sabha; the Raaza Puruskar by the Raaza Foundation; and the Devadasi Award by the Devadasi Nrutya Mandir.
