Bhubaneswar: Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna on Sunday celebrated Father’s Day by presenting handwoven pocket squares crafted by artisans of Sambalpur in western Odisha to fathers visiting his restaurant Bungalow in New York city.
“At Bungalow, we are honoured to mark this day by celebrating the timeless artistry of Odisha – a land where every thread carries a story,” he posted on Instagram along with a video.
He further stated that the pieces of Sambalpuri Ikat, ‘woven with precision, dyed with age-old technique and infused with heritage’, were placed in their dining room alongside silver trays of fresh jasmine and sandalwood.
Sambalpuri Ikat weave, which has its origins in the Sambalpur belt of Odisha, is an ancient dyeing technique used to create a distinct style of textile pattern.
Vikas further mentioned that these were a gift from filmmaker and producer from Odisha, Jitendra Mishra.
Father’s Day is celebrated across the globe on the third Sunday of June every year to recognise and honour the sacrifices fathers make for their children.
