New Delhi: The notification to conduct Census 2025 will be published in the official gazette on June 16, the Union Home Ministry has said.
Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting on Sunday to assess preparations for the upcoming massive process.
Shah was joined by the Union Home Secretary, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, and other senior officials.
The latest Census, the 16th in India and eighth one post Independence, will be conducted in two phases.
The Houselisting Operation (HLO) will involve gathering data on housing conditions, assets and amenities of households.
Then comes Population Enumeration (PE) which will see collecting demographic, socio-economic, cultural, and other details of every individual, including caste enumeration.
An estimated 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors, along with approximately 1.3 lakh Census functionaries, will be deployed to carry out the population survey activities in a country with a population of more than 1.45 billion.
The overdue Census, which was scheduled for 2021 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be carried out digitally using mobile applications, with an option for citizens to self-enumerate also being provided.
“Very stringent data security measures would be kept in place to ensure data security at the time of collection, transmission and storage,” the Home Ministry said.
