Bhubaneswar: The Coal Ministry on Thursday allocated the Jamkhani coal block in Odisha’s Sundargarh district to Vedanta Ltd, a subsidiary of London-based Vedanta Resources Limited.
Jamkhani coal mine has 114.98 million tonne extractable reserves with a peak rated capacity (PRC) of 2.6 million tonnes per annum. While the final price per one metric tonne of coal from this mine fixed by the ministry is Rs 1674, the gross revenue generation from the mine for 30 years is Rs 13,057.20 crore.
The coal block, which is in proximity to the company’s aluminium smelter plant in Jharsuguda, will provide fuel security, improve power availability and further strengthen the company’s aluminium operations and performance.
Jamkhani coal block is the second coal block of Vedanta Ltd after Chotia coal block in Chhattisgarh having an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes.
The Coal Ministry had conducted the electronic auction in the first week of November this year.
