Centre To Set Up Cancer Hospital At NISER Campus In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Central government will set up a state-of-the-art cancer hospital with an investment of Rs 650 crore in Odisha capital.

This was stated by Union Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan during a meeting with Minister of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh in connection with the matter in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The cancer hospital will come up in the campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) under the Department of Atomic Energy. Of the total investment, the Department would provide Rs 400 crore while Tatra Trust will invest the rest Rs 250 crore.

The NISER has already allotted 17 acre of land while the Ministry of Skill Development and Enterpreneurship will provide 10 more acre for the cancer hospital. The Tata Trust will hand over the hospital after its construction to the Centre, Pradhan said.

The hospital campus will have quarters for the medical staff, hostels and accommodation for the relatives of the patients. A skill development centre will also come up for the medical staff of the hospital in the campus. The hospital is targeted to be completed in 3 years, he added.

Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, officials of Tata Memorial Centre and related departments were present at the meeting.
