Bhubaneswar: Aggrieved over the alleged discrepancies in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII results, a student attempted self-immolation outside the CBSE regional office at Saheed Nagar here on Tuesday. Timely action by police saved him.
“The student took the extreme step after the CBSE authorities failed to sort out certain irregularities in the Class XII examination results. Several students from Odisha, who appeared for the exam this year, had their results withheld. The evaluation of answer sheets has also been faulty,” a member of the parents’ association said.
Meanwhile, members of the student wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee also took out a bike rally from Congress Bhawan and tried to gherao Naveen Niwas, demanding re-evaluation of CBSE class XII answer sheets. The cops stalled the rally at Sishu Bhawan Square. Several party activists including National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) state president Itish Pradhan were detained.
On June 1, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had sought immediate intervention of Union Human Resources Development minister Prakash Javadekar to resolve the issue. The Union Minister had deputed two central officials to look into the matter.
