Coal Scam: Abhishek Banerjee’s Wife To Face CBI Tomorrow; Sister-In-Law Questioned

Kolkata: Officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), including two women, on Monday questioned Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir for three hours regarding the alleged coal smuggling scam.

Abhishek’s wife Rujira, on the other hand, informed the CBI team that she will be available for questioning at her south Kolkata residence between 11 am and 3 pm on Tuesday.

On Sunday, a CBI team had turned up at Abhishek’s house to serve a notice to Rujira for questioning on the coal case. She was not at home then, and replied to the notice a day later.

Last November, CBI registered an FIR against alleged coal smuggling racket kingpin Anup Manjhi, Eastern Coalfield Ltd General Managers Amit Kumar Dhar and Jayesh Chandra Rai, ECL Chief of Security Tanmay Das, Area Security Inspector Kunustoria Dhananjay Rai and SSI and security in-charge Debashish Mukherjee.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek have said they won’t be intimidated or cowed down by such threats, implying politics of vendetta being played by BJP.
