New Delhi: The Delhi government is making it mandatory for commercial buildings with parking facility for 100 and more vehicles to keep aside 5% of the space for electric vehicles (EVs). The parking spaces will also need to have slow charging points.
Malls, shopping complexes, cinema halls, multiplexes, office spaces, hotels, restaurants and hospitals will have to comply with the order by end of 2021.
Currently, Delhi has 72 EV charging stations which the government intends to increase to 500 in six months. It aims at installing one charging point at every 3 km.
The government is trying to popularise EVs which would help improve the air quality of Delhi. The state government departments are expected to have only EVs in their fleet by August this year.
