Sambalpur: A woman gave birth to conjoined twin girls at the District Headquarters Hospital in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Saturday.
The twins, born to Rabina Kumari, have separate heads but their bodies are conjoined from belly to neck.
Rabina and her husband, a ‘panipuri’ vendor in Rengali, have been advised by doctors to take the newborns to Burla or Cuttack for advanced treatment.
Being poor, the parents, who hail from Bihar but have settled in Rengali for the last 20 years, said they cannot afford the advanced treatment.
They have appealed to the state government and the corporate sector for help.
In October 2017, Jaga and Kalia from Melupada village in Kandhamal district were separated at AIIMS, New Delhi, after a marathon 11-hour surgery.
They were suffering from a rare congenital disorder called Craniopagus parasiticus.
In November last year, Kalia died due to septicaemia while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
