Constable Who Held Grudge Against Former Odisha Lawmaker & Murder Convict Anup Sai Transferred

Bhubaneswar: While an ASI pulling the trigger on health minister Naba Das is still fresh in public mind, Odisha police transferred a constable posted at Kolabira police station in Jharsuguda district for allegedly threatening to avenge the murder of Kalpana Das and her daughter, whom former Brajarajnagar MLA Anup Sai had conspired to eliminate.

According to sources, constable Saroj Das has been transferred to the reserve office of the district police headquarters following his remark against Sai in an inebriated state and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against him.

The former lawmaker, convicted in the double murder case, is out on bail now.

Jharsuguda police, which has started a drive to withdraw arms from all the drunken police officials and transfer them to the district police headquarters, has not yet revealed Saroj’s exact statement against Sai.

The constable, a relative of the victim Kalpana, had helped Chhattisgarh police in identifying her body, which was dumped near Hamirpur forest in Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh.

Both Sai and his driver were arrested by the Chhattisgarh police on February 13, 2020, on charges of murdering Kalpana and her daughter Bubly. The post-mortem report of the deceased revealed that they were first hit with a blunt object before being run over by a vehicle to pass it off as a road accident. The former legislator was booked under Sections 302, 201, 120(B) and 34 of the IPC and A Chhattisgarh court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the double murder.

Sai was elected to Odisha Assembly from Brajarajnagar constituency for three consecutive terms from 2000 to 2009 on a Congress ticket. He joined BJD in 2014 but lost the election. He was allegedly in a relationship with Kalpana since 2011 but conspired to eliminate her when she insisted on marriage and also demanded a share in his property.
