Puri: A couple sustained grievous injuries after being allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by a miscreant at Kakatpur in Odisha’s Puri district.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place when the couple was returning home from Kakatpur market on Sunday night.
Sources said the incident took place on the Bauriakana-Bhandaghar road in Kakatpur. The assault was reportedly carried out with a motive to rob the couple.
The accused youth, who was reportedly hiding along the road, allegedly took advantage of the darkness, stopped the two on the road and attacked them with a sharp weapon.
The couple stays at Osian Gopalpur village under Astaranga block in the district.
Hearing their cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot, caught hold of the accused informed the police.
On being informed the Kakatpur police reached the spot and rescued the injured couple. They were subsequently admitted to the Bangurigaon Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical aid.
The accused was taken into custody and investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack.
