Baripada: A couple died under mysterious circumstances at the house of a relative at a village in Bisoi area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place at Chatarisahi village under the jurisdiction of Bisoi police station in the district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Bhanja Sirkha (35) and his wife Birang Sirkha.
Sources said the couple had arrived at the village on Thursday to attend a relative’s post-death ritual at the woman’s parental home. The family members had dinner together on Friday night and went to sleep. The couple were reportedly in good health until then.
However, their condition deteriorated by Saturday morning, and family members found them unconscious.
They were rushed to the Manada Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared Bhanja Sirkha dead.
As his wife was in a critical condition, she was referred to Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH). She later died while undergoing treatment.
A relative of the deceased couple said the family had rushed the two to hospital after finding them unconscious.
The exact cause of the couple’s death is yet to be ascertained.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are waiting for the post-mortem reports.
