Bhubaneswar: A couple allegedly died by suicide by jumping before Visakhapatnam-Durg Vande Bharat Express near Kalyanpur level crossing in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Jaduram Pandey (58) and his wife Jambai Pandey (56) of Silda village under Nuapada police limits.
According to sources, the couple allegedly took the extreme while returning home from a relative’s house at nearby Kalyanpur village after dinner. The Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel from Kantabanji have seized the bodies and sent them for postmortem.
According to the villagers, the couple were staying separately for the last two years following a dispute with their son and had no permanent source of income. They suspect that mounting debt and persistent harassment by creditors could have prompted them to end their lives.
