Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday found Rs 6.57 lakh in a secret chamber beneath a bed at the Sambalpur residence of Dileswar Majhi, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Titlagarh R&B Sub-Division under Kantabanji R&B Division of Balangir.
The cash was recovered during simultaneous searches on properties linked to the AEE on allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
Four buildings, a market complex, nine high-value plots and 300 grams of gold were also unearthed during the raids at six locations in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Balangir districts by teams led by 5 DSPs, 8 inspectors, 2 ASIs , and other supporting staff on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir.
The assets found in the name of Majhi and his family members are as follows:
1. A double-storey building over 4500 sqft area at Sambalpur town (Sarla) with a beauty parlour being run by his wife on the ground floor.
2. Another double-storey building over 6300 sqft area at Gandaghora Mouza in Brajrajnagar Unit-II, Jharsuguda.
3. Two more buildings at Lahandapur, Jharsuguda.
4. A market complex over 900 sqft area with 4 shops at Brajarajnagar, Unit -II, Jharsuguda.
5. 9 high-value plots – one each in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda’s Brajarajnagar and Badmal and 6 on the outskirts of Sambalpur town.
6. Rs 6,57,500 in cash
7. 300 grams of gold
8. Bank deposits worth Rs 20 lakh
9. A four-wheeler (Swift Dzire) and 2 two-wheelers.
The measurement and valuation/assessment of the buildings/market complex/plots are being carried out by the Vigilance Technical Wing. Other deposits and investments are also being ascertained.
The raids were conducted at these six places:
1. One double-storey building at Sambalpur Town, Unit-16 (Sarla), Sambalpur.
2. Another double-storey building at Gandaghora Mouza in Brajrajnagar Unit-II, Jharsuguda.
3. A Market Complex at Gandaghora, Nuadihi, Mouza Brajrajnagar, Unit-II, Jharsuguda.
4.Two housing board houses at Lahandabud, Jharsuguda.
5. His office chamber in the office of R & B Division, Kantabanji, Balangir.
6. Govt quarters at Titlagarh, Balangir.
