Phulbani: A man and his wife were found hanging allegedly after a fight over mobile phone at a village in Baliguda area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The incident reportedly took place at Budukiya village under the jurisdiction of Baliguda police station. The deceased have been identified as Pramod Malik and his wife Puari Malik.
As per information, the woman had brought a smartphone from her father’s house recently. However, her husband Pramod took the mobile phone and mortgaged it for buying liquor.
Since then, frequent quarrels took place between the two over the mobile phone. As the fight escalated on Wednesday, Puari locked herself in a room of the house and hanged herself from the ceiling. Later, Pramod went to another room in the house and ended his life by hanging.
Neighbours heard the loud cries of the couple’s 11-month-old daughter and knocked on their door. As no one opened the door, they became suspicious and looked inside the house through the windows. They were shocked to see the couple hanging from the ceiling of two rooms and informed the police about the incident.
The police visited the site and recovered the bodies in the presence of a magistrate and sent them for autopsy. The cops are investigating the incident.
