Court Orders Man To Pay Ex-Wife Rs 1.75 Cr For 25 Years Of Unpaid House Work

Madrid: A man will have to pay through his nose for having made his ex-wife do all the household work over a period of 25 years.

A court in Spain’s Velez Malaga has ordered the man to pay Ivana Morals a whopping Rs 1.75 crore ($212,000) for 25 years of unpaid domestic work.

The basis for the matrimonial court case was that domestic work should have been split equally between the husband and wife.

The judge ordered Ivana’s former husband to give her the sizable sum as part of the divorce settlement. The ‘penalty’ was calculated based on minimum salary for the work Ivana did during her marriage.

Ivana told the court that her husband only wanted her to work at home and occasionally in the gyms he owned.

“I have dedicated myself exclusively to housework, looking after my husband and the house. He made me take on the specific role of doing domestic chores, to the extent that I was in a place where I couldn’t really do much else,” she submitted to the court.

The judge ruled that Ivana, a mother of two, had been in charge of all household duties for more than 20 years and spent her time essentially working in the home, which meant looking after the home and the family.
