Bhubaneswar: After a gap of more than 3 months, the daily COVID-19 caseload dropped below 1000-mark on November 11 with 987 people testing positive for the virus.

The state had last reported less than 1,000 cases on July 20.

While 1,220 new cases were detected the following day, November 12 saw another drop in infections with 986 of total 45819 samples testing positive for the virus at a positivity rate of 2.1 per cent. The percentage of samples returning positive was 2.48 per cent on November 11 when 49,160 samples tested.

Additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, however, said that there was no room for complacency as any lax has the potential to aggravate the situation.

“Irrespective of the fall in new cases, the daily test level of around 50,000 samples will be maintained. There would be more tests in districts reporting a higher percentage of positive cases,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

According to the report, the Odisha government will prepare itself further for the projected needs of hospital infrastructure, manpower and curbs for December after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviews the situation once again next week.
