COVID-19: India Crosses 8.7 Lakh Cases With 28,701 Positives In 24 Hours

New Delhi: India registered its highest single-day spike of 28,701 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload past the 8.7 lakh-mark at 8,78,254 on Monday.

The death toll surged to 23,174 with 500 more succumbing to the infection across the country in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said.

Rising coronavirus cases in several cities have pushed the states governments to re-impose lockdown for varying periods. Meanwhile, the situation appeared to be improving in the national capital.

On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (5,53,471) surpassed active cases by 2,51,862. The national recovery rate also improved to 63.01 per cent.

The Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR) said 1,18,06,256 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far in the country, including 2,19,103 on Saturday.

The surge in coronavirus cases has boosted the demand for Pulse Oximeter. But the Indian firms are receiving a backlash due to zero customs duty on medical devices to tackle the infection which has surged the imports hurting their market share.
