COVID-19 May Last Till End Of 2021: Anthony Fauci

Washington: As COVID-19 cases across the world inched towards the 3-crore mark, the US government’s top infectious disease expert, Anthony Fauci, has said he did not approve of what President Donald Trump said about the pandemic being “rounded the corner”.

Fauci warned that the pandemic may last till the end of 2021.

The outspoken director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said the flu season with a high baseline of around 40,000 new COVID-19 cases a day and deaths around 1,000 daily is concerning.

“The statistics… they are disturbing,” Fauci told MSNBC on Friday. “If you’re talking about getting back to a degree of normality which resembles where we were prior to COVID, it’s going to be well into 2021, maybe even towards the end of 2021.”

The UN General Assembly recently said that the pandemic has been one of the greatest challenges since the establishment of the UN.

More than 9 lakh people across the world have died due to the disease so far.
