Ahmednagar: More than 9,000 children have tested COVID-19 positive here in May and has triggered alarm bells for the Maharashtra government.
Taking note of the alarming situation, the Uddhav Thackeray government asked the district administration to prepare a strategy to deal with the situation.
The Ahmednagar administration has been directed to set up special wards in private hospitals for children and ensure the supply of essential medicines. Almost 100 children are asymptomatic.
In view of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is likely to infect children in large numbers, The Thackeray government ordered the public health department to establish a paediatric task force of experts as preparation.
The 13-member task force is led by noted paediatrician Dr Suhas Prabhu. Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Tatyarao Lahane has been appointed as its member secretary. The task force’s first meeting will take place in Mumbai on Tuesday.
