Bhubaneswar: The wholesale market at Unit-I in the capital city will now operate from 3 am to 6.30 am. The decision was taken with an aim to avoid rush in the area.
At a meeting of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), police and traders’ association of Unit-I on Monday, it was also decided that retailers will operate shops from 6 am to 12 pm as per the earlier decision.
Among other decisions taken, the businessmen cannot take their two-wheelers near the market and some shops will also be shifted to a nearby field.
Moreover, shops will be opened in zig-zag format. For example, one shop will be opened and the shop next to that shop will be closed, said sources in BMC.
Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash said “We had a discussion with some vegetable traders about how COVID-19 rules can be implemented properly. As this is the wholesale for vegetable traders for whole of Bhubaneswar who used to bring autos to the haat to take vegetables. To avoid the rush, we have told them to take the vegetables by 6.30 am,” said police.
About the misuse of identity cards of offices, police said companies should give letters to their employees mentioning their routes and for how many days they are in rotation duties. They should inform through e-mails to DCP office, said the DCP. They should not come to DCP office and no stamping of police and DCP office is necessary on the letters, he added.
