COVID Surge: 23 Odisha Districts Slip Into Red Zone

Bhubaneswar: With the unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases, in Odisha, 23 out of 30 districts with more than 1,000 actives cases have been tagged as red zone now.

According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, the active cases in Odisha rose to 77,257 on Wednesday. Of these, 91 per cent (69,980) cases are in the 23 red zone districts.

Of the districts tagged as red zone, Khurda has the highest of 13,050 active cases. The 22 other districts are Angul (3,415), Balasore (1,526), Bargarh (3,789), Bhadrak (1,234), Balangir (2,789), Boudh (1,028), Cuttack (5,423), Ganjam (1,604), Jagatsinghpur (1,073), Jajpur (2,371), Jharsuguda (3,126), Kalahandi (2,850), Keonjhar (1,044), Mayurbhanj (1,979), Nabarangpur (3,067), Nayagarh (1,614), Nuapada (2,259), Puri (3,495), Rayagada (1,303) Sambalpur (3,664), Sonepur (1,123) and Sundargarh (7,154).

A zone is categorized as red if districts with the highest caseload contribute to more than 80 per cent of coronavirus cases for each state or districts that have a doubling rate of less than four days.
