Bhubaneswar: Under the direction of Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, special enforcement against violations of road safety rules is underway.
Under the direct supervision of Principal Secretary Usha Padhee and the leadership of Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, RTO teams across the state conducted a three-day intensive drive focusing on overloading and roadworthiness checks
In this period, 275 vehicles were issued challans for overloading, and 536 vehicles were penalized for fitness-related violations. In total, 2,532 challans were issued, 401 fitness certificates were cancelled, and a total fine of Rs 56,37,632 was collected.
Overloading cases: Cuttack RTO (14), Sambalpur (25), Keonjhar (14), Angul (15), Ganjam (14), and Kalahandi (13).
Fitness-related violations: Cuttack RTO (50), Bhubaneswar-I (68), Jajpur (29), Sonepur (26), Bhanjanagar (39), and Khordha ARTO (35).
Fitness certificate cancellations: Jagatsinghpur (60), Sonepur (26), Keonjhar (17), Angul (18), and Koraput (14).
Major fine collections: Angul RTO (Rs 9,98,520), Chandikhole (Rs 3,79,235), Jharsuguda (Rs 3,23,195), Balangir (Rs 5,13,836), Cuttack (Rs 2,51,975), Rourkela (Rs 2,03,203), and Barbil ARTO (Rs 4,34,538).
To reduce road accidents, the Commerce & Transport Department has prioritised awareness and strict enforcement. The State Transport Authority (STA) conducts special enforcement drives every week on different road safety themes.
The STA has stated that enforcement will be made even more stringent in the coming days, and strict action will be taken as per the Motor Vehicles Act. All road users are urged to strictly follow road safety rules.
