Crorepati Anganwadi Worker In Bhubaneswar Arrested In DA Case
Bhubaneswar: Anganwadi worker Kabita Mathan of Karodakanta in Bhubaneswar, whose properties were raided by Vigilance sleuths in disproportionate assets case on Tuesday, was arrested on Wednesday.
Following allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Mathan, 6 teams of Vigilance Cell Division conducted simultaneous house searches at 6 places in Khurda, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts.
During the raids, 4 buildings including a four-storey house, a triple-storey building and two double-storey buildings at Bhubaneswar, 14 plots including 10 at Bhubaneswar, 3 at Talakusuma and Jagatsinghpur and one plot at Balianta, Khurda, a four-wheeler, three two-wheelers, insurance deposits over Rs 2.2 lakh, gold ornaments worth over Rs 6.36 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling over Rs 4 crore were unearthed.
After inventory, income and expenditure, Mathan was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,96,39,475.
As Mathan could not account for the properties satisfactorily, Vigilance Cell
registered a case against her and her spouse. Mathan was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
Former bank manager convicted in bribe case
The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore has convicted Pradeep Kumar Pradhan, former branch manager of Balasore Bhadrak Central Co-Operative (BBCC) Bank, Jaleswar Evening Branch in Balasore district for demanding and accepting illegal gratification.
The court has sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and 6 months and pay fine of Rs 5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 4 months.
The Vigilance officials had nabbed Pradhan while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant for sanction of loan in his favour towards extension of his shop at Jaleswar.
