Rourkela: A team of CRPF jawans on a combing operation in forest areas of K Balanga in Sundargarh district on Sunday diffused a landmine suspected to be planted by Maoists.

According to sources, the 12-15 kg improvised explosive device (IED) was packed in a steel container on a kutcha track of Hatigurah village on the foothills near Jharberha area. It was filled with liquid explosives and sharp iron splinters while the detonator was fitted with command mechanism. Later, the jawans diffused the IED on the spot.

“The Maoists might have planted the IED/landmine to inflict casualty on police personnel,” said an official statement.
