Cuttack: The Millennium City saw 336 new COVID-19 cases between July 25 and July 30, informed Cuttack Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ananya Das on Sunday.

Among them, 114 cases were detected from containment zones, 118 from home quarantine and 59 from institutional quarantine. The remaining 45 are local contact cases.

The city has seen a rise in positive cases compared to last week when 264 new patients were detected between July 19 and July 24.

Das further informed that the city had reported 55 new cases in the last 24 hours, which took the total to 1004. The district administration has, however, tweeted about 60 new cases being detected in the CMC area during the period.

Elaborating on COVID-19 infection analysis of last one week, she said that more cases have been reported from some clusters.

The commissioner also provided details of cases detected in Old Rausapatna and Malgodown, which have been declared as containment zones. She said that the positivity rate has declined in Old Rausapatna and therefore, a decision has been taken to lift the containment restrictions from the locality except for an affected area.

“Malgodown has high positivity rate and it is a challenging case since it is a densely populated area,” she said.

The commissioner further said that antigen testing will be expedited in the city. “Private hospitals and fever clinics can avail the facility according to ICMR guidelines,” she added.

Post PG doctors have also be deployed at different COVID Care Centres and also at Ashwini Hospital in the city to tide over manpower crunch, she said.

Active surveillance is on and samples collection is being done at four centres, she added.

Das further informed that the corporation has been organising special webinar for psychosocial counselling of COVID-19 patients. “Soon, we will also launch this initiative at the public level,” she informed.

Cuttack COVID-19 Observer Saurabh Garg urged the public to be more cautious with economic activities slowly reopening. “People should limit their movement only to bare minimum needs and ensure that they follow all COVID-19 guidelines like social distancing and wearing of masks,” he said.
